Sheikh. Thani bin Thamer bin Mohammed Al-Thani
Sheikh Thani received a B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Tulsa in the U.S, and a Post Graduate Degree in Business Administration from Hull University in the UK. Further, he has completed his Diploma Program “QatarEnergy High Performance Board Program” at IMD (International Institute for Management Development) in December 2016.
He began his career as a Well Site Petroleum Engineer for QatarEnergy in offshore and onshore oil and gas fields in Qatar. During 1997, he participated in two-years of full-field study program with Mobil Corporation in Dallas, Texas, on appraisal studies for future energy projects in Qatar. Beginning in 1998, he served as a Senior Reservoir Engineer for QatarEnergy and was tasked with optimizing the monetization of gas reserves while working closely with leading international oil company partners in the development of the North Field. In 2003, he was appointed Deputy Managing Director of Qatar Shell, helping develop and deliver the Pearl GTL plant. In addition to ensuring the continued success of Pearl GTL, his contributions include strengthening Qatar Shell and advancing the company’s Qatarization goals.
He was the Chairman of Al Meera from March 2016 until March 2019 and Vice Chairman of QAPCO/Qatofin/QVC from May 2016 till May 2018.
He was also a Board of Director of Qatar Solar from March 2018 up to 2021.
In November 2015, he was appointed by QatarEnergy as Chief Executive Officer of ORYX GTL and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors from April 2016 up to the present.
Sheikh Thani was the Vice Chairman / ARC Chairman of Qatar Fuel Additives Company Limited (QAFAC) from May 2018 until April 2021 and has been appointed as QAFAC Chairman from May 2021 up to 31 May 2026.
He has been appointed as Board Member of Mesaieed Petrochemical Holding Company (MPHC), effective 1 June 2026.
